XinzhuangAnhui Fm
Type Locality and Naming
Heifei Basin, north zone. The Xinzhuang Formation was erected by the Anhui Regional Geological Survey Team in 1978. The section for the designation is in Xinzhuang about 12 km south of Wuhe County of Anhui.
Synonym: Xinzhuang Formation (Anhui) K1xzA 新庄组; Zhuxiang Fm or Zhujiagang Fm (previous names). XinzhuangAnhui used here because Xinzhuang is also used for another formation in another province.
Lithology and Thickness
The Xinzhuang Formation is represented by a set of yellow brown and gray red continental clastic rocks, which is divided into two members. Lower member is built up by gray yellow conglomerate, sandy conglomerate and lithic sandstone with siltstone and sandy mudstone. Upper member is built up by gray yellow, yellow brown and gray red moderately thick-bedded medium- and fine-grained lithic sandstone, siltstone and mudstone with thin-bedded conglomerate, grit and marl. The Xinzhuang Formation is in excess of 1100 m.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
The base of the formation marked by sandy conglomerate lies conformably on the underlying Zhougongshan Fm.
Upper contact
The top marked by sandy mudstone is distinguished from sandy conglomerate of the overlying Qiuzhuang Fm.
Regional extent
The formation occurs in Wuhe, Dingyuan, Changfeng, Sixian and Feidong counties, previously called the Zhujiagang Fm. In the north Huaiyang area, the strata equivalent to the formation is called the Shibata Formation.

The formation yields Bivalves Nakamuranaia chingshanensis; Ostracods Cypridea sp., Estherias Yanjiestheria sp.; Floras Manica cf. paracermosa, Frenelopsis sp.
Age
Depositional setting
It mainly belongs to lacustrine deposition.
